Night Golf in Korea - A uniquely Korean summer golf experience

๐ŸŒŒ What Is Night Golf?

Korea’s summers are hot and humid, which is why night golf has become so popular. Fully lit courses let you play well past sunset — perfect for night owls like me. Tee times can start as late as 7–8 PM and go until midnight. And yes, there are even special rules that apply only at night.

Just look at the flood of lights!

๐Ÿ’ก Why It’s Popular in Korea

  • Beat the Heat → Daytime rounds in summer can be brutal; night rounds are cooler.

  • Busy Lifestyle → Office workers finish work and head straight to the course.

  • Scenic Experience → Playing under floodlights feels surreal, almost like stadium sports.

  • Cheaper Rates → Often slightly discounted compared to prime daytime slots.

๐Ÿ‘€ What to Expect

  • Every fairway and green is lit up with massive floodlights.

  • Shadows can play tricks on your depth perception, especially on the green.

  • Balls are easier to track in the air, but harder to find in the rough or dim areas.

  • Courses usually close around midnight — then the lights go off, no exceptions.

⚠️ The Special Rule

Because balls are so much easier to lose at night (especially in roughs or penalty areas), most Korean clubs have a night golf local rule:

➡️ Any lost ball after dark = 1 penalty stroke, even if it’s technically OB.

This keeps the pace of play steady and helps players avoid a complete mental collapse.

๐Ÿ‘ Pros

  • Cooler weather, less sunburn

  • Easier to book than weekend mornings

  • Unique vibe you won’t get elsewhere

๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons

  • Harder to judge distances

  • Mosquitoes and bugs in summer (bring spray!)

  • Fatigue — playing after a full workday isn’t for everyone

  • Slower greens (due to evening dew and longer grass growth)

๐ŸŒ️ My Experience

The first time I played night golf in Korea, it felt like a movie set. The fairways glowed, the greens shone under the lights, and every shot felt dramatic.

Of course, the downsides are real — the greens are always slower, and reading putts under floodlights can be tough. But as a night owl, I knew right away this would become my favorite way to play.

The cheaper green fees and the “no OB zone” rule don’t hurt either ๐Ÿ™‚.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In short, night golf is one of the most uniquely Korean golf experiences you can have — and a must-try if you visit during the summer.

Night golf on Halloween!
